At Black Hair Spot, we know and love our hair. We are an online community of black women who share a passion for hair education. We teach each other how to care for our hair. We challenge each other to step out of the thick tresses of our comfort zones and try new things. We support each other in the name of healthy hair.

Nyssa
As Founder & CEO, Nyssa is excited to have built a strong team to execute on the vision for this Black Hair Spot site. She has been running a software development and digital marketing agency, called nyche marketing since 2005 and is able to transfer her high tech skills into this passion business.

Reakash
Reakash is a wide-eyed communications strategist based in Edmonton. She is the managing editor at Black Hair Spot. Reakash is a photographer and policy buff who can never seem to talk about black hair without getting political. Reakash has always been a little bit obsessed with black hair and is pleased to have an outlet for her musings.

Brnesh
Brnesh is a 20-something from Edmonton, Alberta with way too much going on for my own good. When she’s not working as a graphic designer and freelance writer, she runs a print and online magazine called, Marker; a publication that deals with the arts, culture, music, and socially conscious stories.

Yasmine
Yasmine is an image activist, vlogger and aspiring film producer. Through her work as a content creator, she strives to find creative ways to advocate and service of honest and diverse images of under-represented people of colour in the media.

Nasra
Nasra Adem is a 20 year old Edmonton based poet, singer, dancer and actress. Through her art she aspires to unearth and explore the beauty and love in what it means to truly embrace one’s self. Her naturalista journey has been a key factor in her spiritual growth and she is excited to share her discoveries on a POC friendly platform such as this.
Riyah
A journalism major, Riyah has a passion for learning and seeing issues through the perspectives of others. Born and raised in Kenya, her passion for travelling and learning about herself through other’s cultures has brought her to Canada. Being born East Indian in East Africa has given her a unique perspective on issues pertaining to women and beauty. Riyah strives to improve women’s issues one article at a time.
Shweat
Shweat is Communication Student in the midst of a career shift and aspiring Public Relations Professional. With her primary focus on school in the past few years, she recently began an internship that’s combined her interest in Communications with her admiration and awareness to the importance of interculturalism. Shweat has a strong passion for both writing and black hair so she was thrilled to be invited to write for BHS.
Hope
Hope Nsekanabo currently resides in Edmonton and is attending MacEwan University for Dental Hygiene. Hope was born in Zimbabwe, but is originally from Rwanda. She is second youngest in a family of nine! Hope loves to talk about hair and learn and discover new methods and styles that work well with her sassy, sometimes difficult hair. The people Hope looks up to most for hair inspiration are her sisters and of course her beautiful mother, who treats Hope’s hair as her own. Other hobbies include, shopping, hitting the gym, puppies and quoting Mean Girls.
